The art and culture in Puerto Vallarta has been growing in the recent years. The port was when in 1963 when Richard Burton, Elizabeth Taylor and Eva Gardner first visited Bahía de Banderas to film director John Huston‘s film, «Night of the Iguana«. This was the beginning for artists, filmmakers, sculptors, musicians, painters and others will look at Puerto Vallarta, making it an unknown destination in a more attractive place.

This has made the artistic soul of Vallarta grow with the development of the city, and at the same time has been able to support national and international talent. Museo del Cuale

Located on the Cuale River Island, this museum exhibits a permanent collection of western Mexico provided by regional museums of Guadalajara, Michoacán and Colima. The exhibition includes ceramics and art on the traditions and customs of groups that inhabited the region in the pre-Hispanic period between the year 5000 and 2000 BC; among its pieces includes hunting and gathering tools to a tomb recovered from excavations in Sayula Zacoalco, Jalisco, Mantanchen Bay and Ixtapa in Nayarit.

Admission is free, open from Monday to Saturday.

Naval History Museum

Puerto Vallarta has a Naval Historical Museum right next to the Malecon Amphitheater. In 2001 it was chosen to become the naval museum #4 of all Mexico, existing two in Mexico City and one in Veracruz. The museum has as an exhibition paintings, documents, maps, scale models, photographs, navigational instruments, uniforms and more. There is an area with temporary exhibitions of local, national and international artists can exhibit their works. And after finishing the tour of the museum you can go up to the cafe on the 2nd floor of this, which besides offering rich dishes, has a beautiful view of the bay.

Admission is free, open from Tuesday to Sunday.


Caballito Malecón sunset - Art and Culture in Puerto Vallarta

Throughout Puerto Vallarta there are sculptures created by renowned artists. The Malecón, in particular, has become the Paseo del Arte, beginning at the north of it and ending at Los Arcos amphitheater, a sculptural ensemble placed after its rescue at a hacienda in Guadalajara, becoming one of many icons that distinguish the city. During this walk, there are sculptures such as «Origin and Destiny», «Triton and Mermaid», «In Search of Reason» and the very famous «The Kid on the Seahorse».

Although on the Malecon there is the largest sculptural ensemble, in Marina Vallarta, there are other sculptures that adorn the rest of the city, such as the well-known «The Whale and her calf». According to Vallartenses, the latter is the largest bronze sculpture in the world.


artwalk - Art and Culture in Puerto Vallarta

The Art Walk is an important contribution to the cultural scene for Puerto Vallarta. This initiative will be held every Wednesday from 6 to 10 at night, from October 25 to May 30, 2018.

The participating galleries offer works by important national and international artists. Exceptional paintings and sculptures, fine ceramics and jewelry and many other types of art is what ArtWalk offers. This tour has 14 galleries along the city center, which open until late for people to take a self-guided tour, where you will be offered snacks and a lot of art. This tour only opens in high season.
